It seems to be a universal problem. The shortage of ammo as Wisconsin deer hunting season approaches is causing major concern for gun store owners and sportsmen alike.
Seehafer News spoke Thursday with the owner of Louie’s Sporting Goods in Manitowoc and Bruce Elliott told us, “We can’t get the ammo, we can’t give it to our customers, our customers are getting upset over it, we are upset, we just can’t get ammo. If I could have a semi load of ammo out in the parking lot right now, I guarantee that I would have people coming from all over the state coming in to buy it.”
Elliott went on to explain that he’s getting calls from Appleton, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and all around, looking for ammunition. “I tell the guys, if there is some ammo out there and you find it, you better grab it,” he said. “If it’s not the brand you use or what it is, just take it and make do for now.”
The existing supply chain shortage results from loads sitting in ports and there could be products aboard ships off the west coast. “A lot of this ammo is made in the country,” he explained. “The CEOs and Presidents have been on the news saying ‘We are up and running. We are running 24/7.’ Where is it all? No one has any answers.”
And, if you are able to purchase a box of ammunition, the price has gone up considerably. So, as Elliott concludes it’s a case of supply and demand at this point.
