The Reedsville Panthers look to get a step closer to Camp Randall Stadium in Madison this afternoon as host Black Hawk/Warren Illinois in a Division Seven quarterfinal playoff football game.
The Panthers are tri-champions of the Big East Conference with Cedar Grove-Belgium and Hilbert and have won their first two playoff games by a combined score of 105 to 23.
Black Hawk/Warren of the Six Rivers Conference comes into today’s game with a record of 8 and 3 and return to northeast Wisconsin after a 20 to 3 win over top seed Hilbert last Saturday. Both teams rely heavily on the run game with the Panthers led by quarterback Brennan Dvoracek’s 1,297 yards and 21 touchdowns. He’s also thrown for 1,060 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Weston Leibzeit and Cole Ebert have combined for more than 1,100 yards and 17 touchdowns and Leibzeit has averaged better than 30 yards per reception with 5 touchdowns. The Warriors are led by their one-two punch of Lucas Milz and Landon Humphery who’ve combined for over 2,100 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Where the two teams differ slightly is how they put teams away with the Panthers doing most of their scoring in the second quarter and the Warriors have outscored their opponents by more than 80 points in the 4th quarter. As is always the case whoever executes better and takes care of the ball is likely to advance to the state semi-finals next week.
Today’s game at Reedsville kicks off at 1 p.m.
