Manitowoc Public Utilities encourages all to be safe this holiday season.
David Yang is the Conservation Efficiency Coordinator for the local electricity provider and encourages everyone to participate in their second Holiday Light Exchange on December 2nd.
“Just one string that consists of 50 incandescent light bulbs…costs about $2.34 or so,” Yang explained. “Compared to a regular 50 LED light string, which would cost about 5 times less, which is about 45 cents in a 30 day period.”
Yang says incandescent lights have a tendency to warm up faster-producing heat that if left unchecked can lead to tragedy.
“Usually for an incandescent light string, it usually gets warm…and can cause a fire,” Yang said. “We really want to have customers come in to this holiday light exchange at Manitowoc Public Utilities.”
MPU has partnered with Focus on Energy, a statewide campaign to help consumers achieve energy independence safely.
Yang says a smart power strip prevents overloaded circuits.
He explained that “If it doesn’t sense anything that’s drawing, whether it’s you TV or Xbox…that you haven’t used for 10 minutes, it automatically turns those off.”
You may stop by MPU this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and exchange up to three strings of incandescent for LED lights free of charge.
