Federal prosecutors didn’t get the murder conviction they were seeking against a Nebraska man accused of causing the death of a Ho-Chunk woman from Wisconsin.
Jonathan D. Rooney was found guilty Wednesday on voluntary manslaughter and destruction of evidence.
The 27-year-old Rooney was charged with second-degree murder last year after the body of Kozee Decorah of Wittenberg was found burning in an outhouse.
Rooney will be sentenced in March.
Decorah’s death has become a focal point for the missing and murder Indigenous people movement.
