In anticipation of colder weather moving in, Manitowoc’s Public Ice Rink at the Farmer’s Market parking lot on Quay Street has been filled.
Director of Public Infrastructure Dan Koski reminds citizens to please stay off the ice until the caution tape has been removed and signage has been adjusted to indicate the rink is open.
Volunteer Doug Schwalbe estimated that the ice would be skateable somewhere between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Schwalbe stated that the rink needs to have “3 to 4 inches of good, solid ice before people can get on it.”
Koski adds that tampering with thin ice is unsafe and is likely to damage the ice rink.
