Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels is addressing the concerns of many citizens who have been asking, “When will the new LED stoplights be up and working?”
The originals were taken down in October at South 10th and Marshall, South 10th and Franklin, and South 10th and Washington Streets with traffic having to obey manual four-way stop signs ever since.
Nickels told Seehafer News, “The procurement process and all of that is a little bit different than locally, The Contractors availability was difficult as all can’t put up stoplights. We had to do the underground work and we had to take the risk thinking that we may have colder weather now so we wouldn’t nearly have the time frame to put them up when they need to be put up.”
Nickels reiterates that interruption in the supply chain to receive parts is the main reason for the delay and there is no firm date when all parts will be delivered.
The contract, which is 90 percent state-funded, says that the lights must be installed 30 days after the final part is received or by June 30th, 2022.
