Winter is here! Time for ice skating, hot chocolate, and cozying up with a good book!
Manitowoc Public Library is pleased to announce its annual Winter Read-a-Thon is beginning soon!
Manitowoc Public Library encourages lifelong learning and a love of reading, and our Winter Read-a-Thon is a perfect example of an opportunity to turn that concept into a reality. We want people to read whatever they want, whenever they want. Our goal is to help patrons renew their reading habits with programs that give them a chance to pursue their reading while earning some cool prizes!
Winter Read-a-Thon 2022 will begin January 29 and run through March 5. We encourage patrons of all ages to read ten hours to complete the challenge. Registration began on Friday, January 14. MPL will once again be using the Beanstack app to track the reading for patrons. If you have used Beanstack in the past, simply go into your account and enroll in the Winder Read-a-Thon for 2022. If you haven’t used Beanstack before, you can register through our website or visit any of our service desks and our staff will be happy to help you out. We will also have paper trackers for those who like a more visual way of keeping track of their reading.
The Winter Read-a-Thon 2022 Challenge tracks your reading in 30-minute blocks. For every 30 minutes you read, simply mark it off in Beanstack or color in an image on your paper tracker. It’s as simple as that.
You can read any time, read any type of material and read any place you are comfortable. Like to snuggle in bed with your little ones at night and read? Great! Mark down the time for you and each of your little ones. You all get to count that reading time! Like to listen to audiobooks on the way to and from work? Great! Mark it down and credit yourself for listening! Like to read digital books through our Libby app? Great! Mark the minutes down and keep reading! There are so many possible ways to read and track it. What should you read? Anything! Eligible materials include magazines, newspaper articles, online books, large print books, audiobooks, fiction books, non-fiction books—it doesn’t matter as long as you are reading (or listening)!
This year, we are adding a wrap-up party to end Winter Read-a-Thon 2022. On March 5, Manitowoc Public Library will host a Bingo Party to celebrate the conclusion of our reading challenge. Patrons of all ages are welcome to attend. Bingo games will begin at 11 AM and run until 1 PM. Patrons can come and go as they like during this time.
So, find a comfy place, find your family members, and settle in for some good reading this winter. Join Manitowoc Public Library’s Winter Read-a-Thon and enjoy!
