After taking a year off due to COVID, the Porta-Potty races are making their grand return this month.
The event, which is a fundraiser for Lakeshore Forster Families and Friends, will be held at the Smiling Moose on Highway 42 in Newton on Saturday, February 26th.
We spoke with Molly Stolp, the Board President for the group, who explained that teams create their own “porta-potty”, which they then push along a track created in the snow.
“Two [teams] race at a time, and it’s a lot of fun,” Stolp explained. “You can have up to five people on a team. The more people the more chaotic it is because they have to try to hold on and race.”
The styles of porta-potties can vary from a cardboard box on skis to a more elaborate creation, much like the team from Bartow Builders created during the last event.
Stolp said, “They took it to the next level and made their contraption out of wood. It was a functioning porta-potty.”
The funds raised will all go toward helping Lakeshore Foster Families and Friends continue their work in Manitowoc County.
“We help support and give resources to foster parents, and kinship parents,” Stolp explained. “Kinship is like a relative placement, like a grandparent that’s taking care of their grandkids. We have a whole bunch of different programs and events, appreciation things that we do for our families to help keep them doing what there are doing.”
The Porta Potty Races will also feature music, refreshments, and food for all in attendance.
The bar will be open as well, with our own Ryan Brahm slinging drinks.
He will be donating all of his tips to Lakeshore Foster Families and Friends at the end of the event.
