Manitowoc’s Room Tax Commission has announced that Manitowoc native and former Alderperson Courtney Hansen has been named the city’s Director of Tourism.
Mayor Justin Nickels says Hansen was selected from a field of several applicants, who all voiced their desire to grow tourism by utilizing current assets with all the new possibilities Manitowoc has.
Courtney was born and raised in Manitowoc, graduated Lincoln High School in 2012, and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Arts from UW-Madison in 2016. She represented District 10 on The Common Council from 2019 to 2021 and has been a very active member of the community serving as a member of the Rahr West Art Museum Board, Chair of The Young Professionals of Manitowoc County, a member of The Progress Lakeshore Marketing and Events Committee and volunteering for many local events and represented Wisconsin as Miss Wisconsin in 2016.
Hansen’s responsibilities include facilitating an active relationship with hotels (and overnight stays), restaurants, and tourist attractions in the City of Manitowoc to promote Manitowoc as a tourist destination at a state and national level to get people to visit here.
The newly created Tourism Department is under the authority of the City’s Room and Tax Commission and will consist of two other full-time positions, Destination Marketing Manager and a Media and Special Events Coordinator.
The Tourism Department will be temporarily housed at City Hall and will also have an office at the Carferry dock during the S.S. Badger sailing season. Hansen will begin her new job on February 24th.
