Devin Remiker, a native of Two Rivers, has been selected to become executive director of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
Remiker was born and raised in Two Rivers before moving to La Crosse to attend the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
The job is not entirely new to the ‘cool city’ native, as he has been serving as interim executive director since last summer after serving a variety of roles within the party over recent years. He previously managed the 2016 reelection campaign of U.S. Rep. Ron Kind.
Ben Wikler, Chairman of the Wisconsin Democrats, spoke to Seehafer News about the decision to promote Remiker from within, saying that the decision was an easy one from the party’s decision-makers.
“He’s done such a dynamite job that our whole senior team and I, our partners, our board, we’ve all totally aligned that we couldn’t do a better job than Devin Remiker as executive director of the party.”
Wikler added that Remiker’s promotion comes during a critical election cycle in 2022 that carries as much weight as the Presidential election of 2020.
“We are at a crosshairs of history; a crosshairs and a crossroads, you could say. The Senate race against Ron Johnson could determine which party controls the Senate.”
He also referenced the more local impact of this November’s election. “The governor’s race is not just about re-electing Tony Evers and making sure we’ve got roads, good schools and health care. It’s also whether we should be a democracy anymore, whether the governor should certify legitimate elections or not.”
Nellie Sires resigned as the party’s most recent executive director last August.
