State officials are offering Wisconsinites a method of asking questions regarding the news of avian influenza being present in Jefferson County.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection issued a Monday press release to note that they are working to safely depopulate poultry from a Jefferson County premises confirmed to have highly pathogenic avian influenza.
Also known as “bird flu,” AI is a virus that infects domestic poultry, such as chickens, turkeys, pheasants, quail, ducks, geese, and wild birds, particularly waterfowl.
To better answer questions from the public, the agriculture department has established an Avian Influenza Response Line. Callers can leave a message with questions or concerns, with messages being checked daily from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The line can be reached at (608) 224-4902. Information can also be found online at DATCP.WI.gov.
