Manitowoc Fire and Rescue Department crews responded to the call of a downtown structure fire yesterday afternoon.
Chief Todd Blaser says they received transmission of the alarm about 2:30 p.m. for the report of smoke and the smell of burning wood from a suite within a building in the 900 block of 8th Street.
The first crews on the scene noticed smoke and flames around an outdoor lighting fixture, which spread to the walls of the second floor.
Crews extinguished the blaze quickly with the preliminary cause being the result of electrical failure.
All occupants evacuated safely, and no one was hurt.
The fire reportedly was caused by an electrical failure, but it is still being investigated.
No dollar amount of damage is not yet available.
Assistance was provided on the scene by the Manitowoc Police Department, Manitowoc Public Service, and Wisconsin Public Service.
