The Manitowoc County Historical Society is joining a nationwide effort to clean local historic markers during the second annual National Historic Marker Day on Friday, April 29th.
Amy Meyer, Executive Director of Pinecrest Historical Village, tells Seehafer News, “We were just excited when we found out about it. We have so many amazing historical markers in the area, and I think sometimes people drive past them or walk past them without giving them another thought.”
Meyer explained that a lot of our historic markers have been around for quite awhile and need some TLC.
“This is a great way for people to get out there and clean them, and even document any needs they have,” Meyer said. “We can look at working with the State Historical Society on getting those taken care of.”
To volunteer to help clean the markers, people are encouraged to sign up by going to the official national historic marker day webpage.
Amy Meyer says there’s also information on how to find that webpage on their website, which is ManitowocCountyHistory.org.
