Calling all Teens—and specifically Teen comic book fans! Registration for Manitowoc Public Library’s Teen Superhero Drawing Classes is now open!
What is the Teen Superhero Drawing Class, you ask? They are classes designed to take teens through a step by step guide to drawing comic book style superhero characters. The Teen Superhero Drawing Classes are all a part of Manitowoc Public Library’s “Comic Book Day, which takes place on Saturday, May 7.
MPL’s “Comic Book Day” is a part of a larger national event called, “Free Comic Book Day”. Free Comic Book Day was created in 2002 as a way to celebrate and promote this original American Art Form. During the day, participating organizations can give away comic books, as well as host other comic book and graphic novel related programs.
MPL’s Comic Book Day is filled with fun activities for the entire family. You can come decked out as your favorite comic book character and participate in our costume contest. Or if that’s not your cup of tea, you can take part in our library-wide Scavenger Hunt. For our Little Superheroes, we have some crafts and mask making in the Youth Department. And last but certainly not least, just for our Teens, we have the Teen Superhero Drawing Classes.
Working alongside art and graphic design students from UW-Green Bay and UW-Eau Claire, teens will learn how to draw their favorite superhero or create their own original design! During these hour-long sessions convening in MPL’s Idea Box Makerspace, teens will be introduced to some basic drawing techniques and work with the Sketchbook app to create dynamic superhero artwork.
But wait, there’s more! Participating teens will have the option to submit their art work for MPL’s Superhero Drawing Contest. Artwork will be displayed on MPL’s Facebook page and the artwork with the most reactions will win a prize. Winners will be announced, Friday, May 13.
Two sessions of Teen Superhero Drawing Classes will be held on Saturday, May 7. Session 1 will run from 10-11 AM, while Session 2 runs from 12-1 PM. Teens will need to register, as well as completing a Permission Slip signed by a parent or guardian, in order to participate in one of the Teen Superhero Drawing Classes. Registration runs through Saturday, May 7, right up until just prior to each class session. Teens can register in person at MPL’s Youth Services Desk or by calling 920-686-3030. Registration is limited to 10 teens per session, so don’t wait! Sign up today!
