After 40+ years the radio tower located on Mirro Drive in Manitowoc will be getting some much-needed maintenance.
This will cause at least 2-radio stations to be off the air Thursday and Friday during the work to ensure the safety of tower climbers and the ground crew.
A tower crew will be replacing 3 of the 30 guy-wires to stabilize the structure and ensure viability for the next 30-years.

Separation of Phillystran at the 425’ level
These guy-wires have a synthetic “leader” known as “Phillystran.”
This portion of the guy wires has separated from the insulator and begun to fray at the 425-foot level.
While crews are on the tower, WOMT-AM (1240 AM) and WQTC-FM (102.3 FM) will be off the air.
The crew has been instructed to keep the stations broadcasting until 10:00 a.m. each day.
These professional climbers will work into the evening or as long as conditions permit each day.
Once the climbers are off the tower in the evening, the stations will be turned back on.
Every attempt will be made to keep WOMT-FM (107.9 FM) and WLTU (92.1 FM) on the air during this maintenance.
Each station will continue regular broadcasting online.
Listen to WOMT at www.womtradio.com.
WQTC is also streaming online at www.wqtcfm.com.
This work is scheduled to be performed Thursday and Friday; weather conditions can change this schedule at any time.
