The Two Rivers City Council this week adopted a new ordinance regarding the licensing of short-term property rentals.
City Manager Greg Buckley says an annual licensing fee will be aimed primarily at properties booked for 30 days or less.
He explains, “It’s intended to the city will have an active database of such vacation rental properties. It does also provide for, not only information on ownership but who the authorized agent is and If there is an owner out of town that they someone locally that makes decisions as far as maintenance and responding to emergency situations at the property.”
Buckley says the ordinance also includes renters to abide by certain existing ordinance requirements such as, “No campers that are being used for lodging in driveways or tents in backyards. The need to abide by city nuisance ordinances. It does establish the ability of The City Council to terminate a license if there are repeat violations from a property.”
The Two Rivers City Manager reiterates that vacation properties are a major piece of the Cool City’s economy and it’s important to lay down the proper line of communication for all to remain “good neighbors.”
The ordinance takes effect on January 1st, 2023.
