After 25 years of wearing the badge, Manitowoc Police Department Training Lieutenant Paul Behrendt is retiring.
Paul was hired by the Manitowoc Police Department on September 9, 1996 and he worked 3rd shift patrol from that time until February 28, 2001. During this time Paul began service as a Citizens’ Academy Instructor in 1997 (to present), Tactical Training Assistant from 1999 until 2015, and a Handgun Instructor beginning in 1999 (to present).
Paul was a School Resource Officer and D.A.R.E. Instructor from March 1, 2001, until June 19, 2005, before returning to the 3rd shift from June 20, 2005, until December 31, 2008. He became an Emergency Vehicle Operation & Control Instructor in 2007 (to present), and was on Motorcycle Patrol from 2008 until 2015.
Paul worked 1st Shift Patrol from January 1st, 2009, until September 13th, 2015, and during that time was a TASER Instructor from 2009 (to present), a Rifle Instructor in 2011 (to present), and a Reality Based Training Instructor in 2012 (to present), before becoming the Training Lieutenant on September 14th, 2015, and served in this capacity until the date of his retirement.
Paul also served as a Stop Stick Instructor since 2016 (to present), a Vehicle Contact Instructor since 2018 (to present), a Field Training Supervisor since 2016 (to present), and on the Search Warrant Team from 2021 until the date of his retirement.
During Paul’s tenure with the Manitowoc Police Department, he was selected as the 2013 Noon Rotary Officer of the Year and was committed to providing excellent police service and an unrelenting pursuit of justice, while maintaining order and securing a safe environment for everyone.
