Manitowoc American Legion Post 88 has won the championship of the Central Wisconsin Baseball Classic.
Post 88 used a pair of 4-run innings to defeat host Plover 8-6 in Sunday afternoon’s title game (July 17th).
Starting pitcher Nathan Stephany picked up the win with 4 and 2/3rd innings of 3-hit baseball, while Brock Peterson earned the save.
Brandon Stephany and Ridge Guyette led the offensive attack going 2 for 4. August Hecker and Peterson both delivered run-scoring singles in the Legion’s 4-run 3rd inning when they grabbed the lead for good.
Manitowoc had earlier beaten Eau Claire 5-4, Watertown 10-0 in 5 innings, and Holmen 3-0 as it went 4-0 in the weekend tournament.
Manager Kevin Stangel’s ballclub winds up the regular season at 19 and 4 and is scheduled to begin Regional tournament action Wednesday (July 20th) against Bay Port in the opening round of the Marinette Regional.
