President Joe Biden’s $280 billion CHIPS and Science Act passed Thursday in the House of Representatives without any help from Republican members of the Wisconsin congressional delegation.
Two dozen Republicans did vote for the bill that would subsidize domestic semiconductor manufacturing and invest in science and technology innovation.
Opponents have called the bill “corporate welfare” for huge companies that don’t need the help.
Wisconsin Congressman Mike Gallagher is more concerned about security, saying Congress should pass legislation that is “laser-focused on the challenge we face from the Chinese Communist Party.”
