Lakeshore Technical College’s Manitowoc campus will begin offering nursing assistant program instruction later this month in their newly constructed 1,440-square-foot learning lab.
This includes plans to offer the program in their competency-based education format next summer.
Certified Nursing Assistants provide direct patient care for hospitals, nursing homes, adult day centers, assisted living facilities, clinics, and home health care services.
A recent search on Indeed.com showed 148 available jobs for certified nursing assistants within a 25-mile radius of Manitowoc.
An aging population is also driving demand.
Recent Cenus.gov figures show that nearly 22 percent of Manitowoc County residents are age 65 and older, compared to 18 percent statewide and 17 percent in the United States.
Vice President of Instruction James Lemerond says that the new space consists of four simulated rooms for the lab portion of the course you must be 16 to take the course where you can earn a technical diploma, then become eligible to take the State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Competency Examination.
Upon passing, students then can seek employment as certified assistants.
