Manitowoc Post 88 dropped a heartbreaker to Aviston Illinois 4 to 3 in 8 innings at The Great Lakes Regional Baseball Tournament played in Midland Michigan.
The game was delayed twice yesterday by rain, then eventually suspended until 8 a.m. CDT this morning.
Aviston jumped out to a 3 to nothing lead after three innings. Manitowoc would get on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning as Brock Peterson was hit by a pitch and would score on a run scoring single by Reece Stangel.
Post 88 would force extra innings by scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th. Peterson would score on a bases loaded walk and Dan Schmitz would score on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Aviston would score in the top of the 8th to grab a 4-3 lead.
Manitowoc would have a chance in the bottom of the frame as August Hecker and Travis Kohlmann drew two-out walks, but a strike out of Dan Schmitz would end the game.
Stangel led Post 88 offensively going 2 for 4 with an RBI while Schmitz and Kuhlmann chipped in with a hit each.
August Hecker was the losing pitcher in relief.
Post 88 now 26 and 6, play at approximately 3 p.m. CDT in a consolation bracket game in the double elimination format against the loser of Midland Michigan and Cincinnati Ohio.
