The City of Sheboygan may soon make it much easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the Sheboygan River.
Senator Tammy Baldwin has announced that the City will be getting $5.3 million in federal money to construct a bridge across the river, connecting the South Pier Boardwalk to the area by Virginia Avenue.
These dollars are a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE Grant program.
The bridge will be what is known as a swing bridge, which is essentially a bridge that can rotate.
The pedestrian bridge over the Sheboygan River will need to move to allow boats to pass through the river.
No timetable has been set for its construction.
