Head Coach Greg Enz is very optimistic about his Shipbuilders football team as he starts his 4th year at Manitowoc Lincoln High School.
Enz told Seehafer News he has the largest group of upperclassmen on the squad since he’s been here, including 16 starters, and, he says it starts with the offensive line.
“We’ve got five seniors up front right now,” he said. “That says something, that says a lot. They’re close friends with one another, they play ball for years and years. If you have a cohesive offensive line you make everybody else on the team a lot better.”
The man at the helm of the Lincoln program also likes the competition at quarterback, where senior Brock Peterson and junior Max Maigatter are vying for the starting position.
“I think we know a lot about Brock as an athlete in baseball and basketball in this community. He’s going to bring those intangibles over to the football field,” Coach Enz said. “And, Max, he’s a farmer’s kid and works his butt off in everything he does, and does not take a break in what he does. So, that’s really nice to have.”
The Shipbuilders have depth in the backfield and, on the perimeter, too.
“We have Ben Wollersheim back after a really great second half of his basketball season. He’s an outstanding receiver, a great route runner, and one of the best blocking receivers I’ve ever been around,” Enz revealed. “You can go right down the line with the experience and abilities of Beasley, Lettenberger, Linboom, Jordan Andrastek-Storms, Pleasant, Max Schneider…there’s a lot of kids that fit a lot of roles.”
Lincoln will again be part of the FRCC-South division this fall and their season opener is next Thursday, August 18th at Appleton West, with the first-ever “Battle for the Badger” at Mona Shores, Michigan to follow on Friday night, August 26th.
