Representatives from Wisconsin Public Service were at The Manitowoc Fire and Rescue Department Friday to present them new scene safety lighting equipment through their WPS Foundation Rewarding Responders Grant.
Matt Cullen is The Director of Media Relations for Wisconsin Public Service, says these grants, up to $2,000,are awarded annually to qualifying recipients to enhance public safety.
MFRD Assistant Fire Chief Jason Russ spearheaded the effort to apply for this grant. He told those in attendance. “Were going to be getting a total of five of these and there are going to be one of these on each of our engines to support not only the city of Manitowoc but also our neighboring communities that we go out and assess with as well. From preventing trip hazards during these times to making our jobs easier and bringing that safety to our citizens.”
Russ adds “These type of grant opportunities allow departments like ours to receive equipment that may not normally be purchased due to other needs and maintaining fiscal responsibility.”
Other grant recipients this year include The Rockwood, Reedsville Greenbush Fire Departments and Elkhart Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
Since 2014, The WPS Foundation has donated more than $450,000 through its Rewarding Responders Grant Program.
The grants have helped 255 police, fire and emergency medical services departments improve public safety across northeast and north central Wisconsin.
