Bail is set at $200 cash for a 30-year-old man who allegedly tried to steal a backpack from a male victim on the city’s Southside late last week.
Jacob F Panske, who did not supply an address to the court, is charged with Attempted Theft and Disorderly Conduct.
Manitowoc Police learned of the would-be crime the afternoon of August 26th and spoke to the victim, who told them he had noticed Panske pacing around near his parents’ home.
He approached the suspect and asked him what he was doing there. Panske had apparently asked if he could borrow the victim’s motorcycle.
When the request was denied, he unsuccessfully tried to take his backpack, He informed a near by Fed Ex driver of the situation and joined him in the search for Panske.
Once located, they kept track of the suspect until police could arrive and take him into custody.
Conditions of bail are that Panske have “no contact” with the victim or the 2300 block of South 23rd Street.
He remains in the County Jail with an initial appearance scheduled for September 8th at 10:30 a.m.
