Bail was set at $1000 cash for a 33-year-old Manitowoc man arrested over the weekend on a charge of 5th Offense OWI.
Manitowoc Police report that a Jeep, driven by Steven G. Behnke ran a stoplight at the intersection od South 10th and Washington Streets.
An officer parked in the nearby Subway parking lot witnessed the violation and began pursuit, eventually pulling over Behnke’s vehicle in The Pizza Hut parking lot just a few blocks away.
The Manitowoc man exited his vehicle and fled on foot for a short distance before stopping.
The officer administered a field sobriety test once he noticed Behnke was stumbling and showing other signs of impairment, which Behnke failed and he was taken into custody.
Conditions of bail are that Behnke is not to operate a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license and to maintain absolute sobriety.
Bail has been posted and his initial appearance is scheduled for October 10th at 1:30.
