The Badgers are 10-point favorites for Saturday’s Big Ten road game at Northwestern.
It’s simply unknown what effect the firing of head coach Paul Chryst might have on the team’s performance.
Both the Badgers and the Wildcats are coming off losses and are dealing with mostly punch-less offenses.
Northwestern is still looking for its first victory on the home turf in Evanston.
Coach Pat Fitzgerald’s team does have a conference victory – while Wisconsin is looking for its first.
Meanwhile, this may be as much of an answer about the Chryst firing as Badger fans will get.
Athletic Director Chris McIntosh tells reporters: “The expectations of our program at Wisconsin are to win championships. I felt that it was the right time to make a change to pursue those.”
The Badgers have won three Big Ten West titles under Chryst’s leadership but the team hasn’t won a conference title in a decade.
It’s a risky move but it’s hoped that the difficult step will reinvigorate the program.
