Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer presented his 2023 budget to the County Board of Supervisors Tuesday evening during their regular monthly meeting at The Heritage Center.
Total expenditures add up to to just shy of $87.5 million and the tax levy comes in at just under of 32-and-a-half million dollars.
That translates to the typical taxpayer paying 2-point-three percent more than last year. Ziegelbauer says this budget includes An across the board 5 percent pay raise to help attract and retain a quality workforce. Ziegelbauer says being fiscally responsible put them in a position to reward their employees adding,
“The County’s financial condition is very good and we have that luxury because of our low debt and by holding the line on property taxes in the past we had that flexibility.
Ziegelbauer says the spending package contains a proposed expansion of The Human Services Department.
We’re adding about 17 positions, most of which are funded through state and federal grants. In addition, we are being aggressive again this year in regard to highway maintenance with about 18 miles of resurfacing of county roads.”
The County Executive reiterates that this budget does not address the eventual multi-million-dollar renovation of the courthouse dome.
“We’ll have a separate resolution to deal with that. This is not mixing yup the courthouse dome restoration project with this budget. This budget is totally separate and not one nickel is appropriated for the courthouse renovation project in this budget.”
A Public hearing on the budget will be held October 31st and the Board of Supervisions is expected to vote on the spending package November 10th.
The complete budget will be available on the county’s website.
