The Manitowoc Police Department has released more details regarding last night’s crash on the 10th Street bridge.
According to a news release, officers and Fire Rescue teams were sent to the bridge at around 8:00 p.m.
They were informed by witnesses that a vehicle was stopped at the lights at the intersection of Maritime Drive and North 10th Street.
When the light turned green, the vehicle accelerated through the intersection, at what was described as an average speed, hopped the curb, and went down the embankment.
A dive team with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene, as was the DNR, as they helped locate the vehicle.
Search efforts were called off at midnight due to weather and water conditions.
The search resumed this morning, with help from the Sheboygan County Dive Team.
The vehicle was located this morning, and removed from the Manitowoc River with help from Highway 42 Garage.
One male subject was also found deceased inside the vehicle.
His identity will not be released until the family is notified.
