The owner of Susie Kay’s Café in Manitowoc is offering up free Thanksgiving Day meals to those in need for several hours on Thursday.
Susie Reif tells Seehafer News why she’s doing this service.
“My customers give to me and help me succeed so I’d like to give back to the community to the less fortunate,” she said. “It doesn’t even matter if you have money or not you’re welcome to come in, if you’re by yourself and just want a little companionship for Thanksgiving, we’re here for you. We’ll do delivery, pickup or eat-in whichever you prefer, you’re always welcome.”
Reif said she and her staff served 248 dinners last year.
She explains they will be cooking up roast turkey and all the trimmings.
“We want to do the stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and everything else, especially the pumpkin pie desserts, so people have something to look forward to,” Reif told us. “They’ll probably have enough for leftovers, we don’t skimp on what we give either as it’s enough that they’ll (likely) be able to have a little snack later.”
And Susie Kay says serving people between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., but it’s about more than just the food.
“We have people that come from all over and they meet new people, sit and (talk to each other) and invite them come to the café,” she said. “It’s just kind of cool to see that happening that people are getting along so well.”
They’ll start taking reservations on Monday for Thursday’s feast by calling 920-652-0522.
