Hundreds of thousands of hunters are expected to hit the woods for a chance to bag a deer as the nine-day gun deer season opened at sunrise this morning,
The thrill of taking down that trophy buck is a “dream come true” and Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer urges everyone to be safe telling Seehafer News,
“The most accidents that happen when your climbing in the deer stand is when your getting in or out of your deer stand, not so much climbing the ladder so be careful when you leave and enter your platform so you don’t slip and fall. Make sure you wear a harness as we’ve seen these types of accidents happen before. We (The MPD) wish all hunters good luck but most of all be safe.”
Temperatures are expected to be in the 20’s and 30’s, along with snow cover will allow hunters to sit comfortably in one area and get a cleaner shot at their target.
The Department of Natural Resources expects to sell about 555,000 deer licenses this year, slightly less than last year. The season ends sunset next Sunday (November 27th).
