“There are not many departments that use a ferry as part of their tool box.”
That comment was made by Captain Gary Schultz of Washington Island Fire Rescue following a rather unique situation in the Door County community Tuesday morning.
A fire broke out at a home on an island, requiring the mainland fire crews to utilize the Washington Island Ferry called “MADONNA”.
Fire engines were loaded onto “MADONNA” and transported to the island at around 8:30 a.m. C
rews were able to bring the fire under control by around 2:00 p.m.
No word on any injuries at this time.
