Bail is set at $5,000 recognizance for a 40-year-old Manitowoc man for his role in the theft of a car earlier this week.
Walter Joseph Megna is charged with Operating a Vehicle without the owner’s consent and theft, both as Party to the Crime, six counts of Felony Bail Jumping, and three counts of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
Police were summoned to Saucy’s Bar on Washington Street in Manitowoc Tuesday to investigate a stolen vehicle from the bar’s parking lot the night before.
20-year-old Margaret Metzger-Meek of Manitowoc allegedly took a coat off a bar stool and was seen on surveillance video with Megna.
During questioning, she said that neither one of them knew who the coat belonged to, so they went to a nearby house to check out was in the pockets.
They found a key and according to Metzger-Meek, it was Megna’s idea to go back and see who the car belonged to, then he allegedly gave her about 5 grams of methamphetamine for taking the car.
The lone condition of bail is that Megna is to have no contact with the victim and his initial court appearance is set for January 23rd.
Meanwhile, Metzger-Meek remains in the County Jail at last word on $1,000 cash bail with her initial appearance set for this Monday at 1:30 p.m.
