“It’s been above and beyond. It really has shown us how much this community values this space.”
That is what Jackie Erdman, the Executive Director of the Above and Beyond Children’s Museum in Sheboygan had to say in response to the outpouring of love and support her organization has received over the past several weeks.
She told us she was actually several hours away celebrating Christmas with her family when she got the news that the pipes in their building on North 8th Street Christmas morning.
After the initial shock wore off, Erdman said she got ahold of everyone that was still in town to assess the damage.
“At first we thought it was specifically in the basement, and then things started to thaw,” she explained. “That was when we realized that throughout the entire museum, pipes had burst. Our sprinkler system was just wrecked.”
Undeterred, work began immediately to take care of the damage.
But, as Erdman explains, they weren’t alone in their endeavor.
“We have had so many in the community come out physically to help us,” she said. “We have had so many businesses and organizations offer up their space for storage, offer up materials, supplies, and labor. The community support has just been incredible.”
Not only were Sheboygan residents and businesses helping out, Erdman told us that people from all over the lakeshore, including Manitowoc, stepped up to help.
And now, they are getting even more help from 3 Sheeps Brewing.

The ABC Museum Taproom Takeover is scheduled for January 29th and will run from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Additionally, the brewery has announced that they will donate $1 for each pint of 3 Sheeps Pilsner sold all month long.
“This is just going to be a wonderful day of all kinds of family fun,” Erdman expressed. “The adults can drink their beer and the kids will be able to play and create and just have a wonderful day.”
As for when the Museum will be back up and running, Erdman estimated sometime in February.
