State Senator Andre Jacque has announced a bill that he said will help reduce salt pollution.
The measure, which is co-sponsored by Representative Elijah Bhenke of Oconto Falls, has the goal of educating residents and winter maintenance professionals on salt pollution and solutions, and how much should be used in specific conditions.
A similar law was adopted in New Hampshire in 2013.
The De-Icer Applicator training would be certified by the DNR, and the program would be self-funded by fees from the voluntary participants in the training.
The program would be voluntary but would create an incentive for more commercial applicators to voluntarily take training and for entities to limit their liability.
