The Manitowoc United JV hockey team is wrapping up their inaugural season this weekend.
This will also mark the final game for Manitowoc Lincoln Senior Walker Lindboom.
Walker played hockey prior to his time in high school, but he told us he felt the need to be a part of this historic team.
“I did have a lot of love for the sport of hockey still and I felt like the amount of time that I dedicated to it previously had not been justified,” number 63 told us. “So for me to come back my last year of high school and get a good season out of it made it all worthwhile.”
Coach Mark Hinz told us that Walker has been one of the driving forces behind this team, specifically noting his drive to succeed.
“He has strength, and determination, and effort every practice. Every game. He has impressed me all year long.” he explained.
In fact, Coach Hinz told us that Walker is such a vital piece of his team, he joked “I wish he would flunk his senior year and have to play with me another season.”
In fact, Walker exuded so much effort during games, the team has carried with them to every game a bucket with Walker’s name and number on it.
This is known as Walker’s “Puke Bucket”, which he has used regularly.
As for what is next for the big man, he tells Seehafer News, “Most likely in the fall I will probably go into some material science program at some university, doing a mixture of chemistry and physics and applying it to innovate and research new materials.”
Walker and the rest of the United hockey team will play their final game of the season this Sunday in Marinette.
Puck drop is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. at the Community Rec Center.
