Three members of the Manitowoc County Mariners semi-pro football team have signed professional contracts to play in the new Arena League.
The announcement made last night by Mariners President Marcos Alfaro Sr. indicated safety Cory Oligney, defensive back Lance Billings and offensive lineman Eugene Winkel have all earned roster spots on the Southern Michigan Apex of the Great Lakes Arena Alliance.
The Apex are coached by former Mariners wide receiver Lawerance Peters, who led the local team to Wisconsin State Football League championships in 2016 and 2017.
Peters now joins Green Bay Blizzard head coach Corey Roberson as former Mariners to land head coaching jobs at the professional level.
The Southern Michigan Apex will start the season in March and play their home games at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan.
