March is here, and that means Spring is right around the corner. At this time of the year, the thoughts of many green thumbs begin to turn to gardening.
The Manitowoc Public Library is hosting the 3rd annual Lakeshore Area Seed Swap on Saturday, March 11th from 9:00 am to noon.
The swap is a no-charge event with the Lakeshore Seed Collective where Gardening enthusiasts can gather and take seeds, drop off seeds, compare notes, and just socialize.
Deena Larson of The Lakeshore Seed Collective explained on the WCUB Breakfast Club that “It’s a little bit like a potluck. Most gardeners I know anyway, order too many seeds. So ultimately you have a lot of extras. So what you do is you bring seeds that you no longer want. Maybe you don’t like them or you have too many of them. Or maybe seeds that you’re saved. You just put them out on a table, and anyone else can come along and just take them. There’s no cost. It’s just a sharing of different seeds…different varieties.”
In conjunction with the seed swap, the library will also be featuring the Seed Library starting up on March 11th. You’ll be able to bring in and take home & plant different varieties of seeds, all for free.
Meredith Gadzinsky of the Manitowoc Public Library noted “You can come in and pick up to 4 seed packets per visit and check them out…and when I say check them out, I mean just take them home with you. It’s going to be in a historic card-catalog near the front desk. Kind of right in front of the book discussion kits on the first floor of the library.”
You can donate any open-pollinated and heirloom seeds to the Library’s front desk anytime during operating hours.
