Sixth District congressman Glenn Grothman was in Manitowoc Tuesday to visit the facilities of Manitowoc Public Utilities.
The Republican from Glenbeulah toured the power plant and discussed the Refuel Renewable project, which began in 2021.
The local utility has replaced coal as fuel for their two fuel-fired boilers with renewable densified fuel pellets.
These pellets are made from local industrial paper and plastic waste that would otherwise go to landfills.
MPU says this is an effort to mitigate risk in an extremely volatile market, but also involves efficiencies and benefits to the community including cost control and local control.
