With mental health and substance abuse issues abundant in our area, it’s important for valuable resources and counseling to be available.
CORE Treatment Services Incorporated is one such place in Manitowoc.
CORE features a 16-bed day-treatment center for those fighting substance abuse and/or mental health issues.
They believe in treating the whole person, treating not only the addiction but also the underlying cause of the addiction.
Co-executive directors of Core Chris Gilbert and Carmen Persand recently appeared on the WCUB Breakfast Club to discuss the operation.
Persand gave a rundown of how the center runs, noting “We offer residential treatment, and we employ councilors and case managers as well as behavioral health techs. So we provide 24-hour supervision. During the day there is a structured schedule that includes therapy groups, individual therapy, and recovery-oriented activities.”
They also offer connections to local resources outside of their own operation, as Gilbert explained.
“If we want to see people get healthy,” he said. “We’re going to give every service we can and provide every resource around them even if it has nothing to do with us or we don’t benefit financially from it, to surround them with everything they need to be successful.”
CORE is also scheduled to open a second residential treatment facility in April with 20 additional treatment beds.
