State Senator Andre Jacque has introduced a bill that would make certain baby and female items tax-exempt.
The bill, if passed, would add Wisconsin to the list of states without a state sales and use tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products.
This proposal was also recently included by Gov. Evers in his biennial budget proposal.
In a written statement, the De Pere Senator explained, “Under current Wisconsin law, many goods deemed necessities are exempt from sales tax including food, over-the-counter medication, medical equipment, and fuel and electricity. Yet, many hygiene products, needed for healthy living, are still taxed luxury goods.”
He closed by saying that the bill would “bring Wisconsin up to speed with a nationwide movement, and bring fairness to Wisconsin’s tax code.”
