Every year more than 90,000 people are newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s – a disease that affects one million people in the United States.
The disease is a brain disorder that causes unintended/uncontrollable movements like shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. The symptoms typically worsen over time.
As the disease progresses, the person may have difficulty talking and walking.
Each April the Parkinson’s Foundation works with the worldwide Parkinson’s community to make life better for people with the disease during Parkinson’s Awareness Month.
Parkinson’s Foundation CEO John Lehr appeared on the WCUB Breakfast Club recently to discuss the disease, the information available through their foundation, and events where you can lend your support.
“We have a signature walk event called Moving Day,” he told host Craig Dillon. “We have a Fall season and a Spring season, so we’re just getting underway on the Spring season. So if people are interested in participating in Moving Day, they can go to our website and find one near their home.”
