A former radio engineer at WOMT has died.
Harley Engel of Manitowoc passed away on Good Friday following a short battle with cancer.
He was 77. Engel was the engineering mastermind behind Seehafer Broadcasting’s present building on Mangin Street constructed in the late 1970’s for late owner Don Seehafer.
He was a fixture of WOMT’s Sports Talk Show for many years as well.
Harley was a dependable volunteer for the Manitowoc Airshow for years and loved the outdoors including biking, fishing, canoeing, and hiking.
Curt Drumm, a longtime friend of Engel’s, put it best in a Facebook post over the weekend.
He said, “Harley was a friend to so many people. He gave so much and always had a smile. We’re going to miss you Harley and thanks for so many great memories.”
A Memorial service is expected to be held at the local airport in the near future.
