Stephanie Lambert, who has been Manitowoc County’s Health Officer for the last two and a half years, has announced she is leaving.
Lambert tells Seehafer News that she has accepted an offer to be the Director of Community Engagement for the Manitowoc/Two Rivers YMCA.
“They are such a welcoming organization. In fact, they told me that they were taking an initiative to make it the most welcoming place in the world,” Lambert said. “They care about your wellness and do so much good in the community. I’m excited to stay connected to the many community leaders I’ve met the last few years and leverage that.”
Lambert came to Manitowoc County in mid-2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
She calls that the most challenging but rewarding time of her career.
“I was fortunate to be here at the end of 2020 when the vaccines were first discovered and authorized and we were able to give almost 20,000 people immunizations to protect them against COVID,” she noted. “They were able to see their grandchildren, return to church, things like that. I’m very excited to have been a part of that.”
The soon-to-be former head of the Manitowoc County Health Department adds she had an offer to return to the CDC, but she wanted to stay here, calling Manitowoc County truly home, and that there’s nowhere else she would rather be.
In fact, she met her future husband, Ben Peters here, and they will be getting married this summer.
Her last day will be this Friday, and she will begin her new job at The Y on May 1st.
Taking over the role is Korina Aghmar, who Lambert says she believes will be a “strong asset to the County.”
