Roncalli High School is one of three in the state of Wisconsin to be awarded 12 brand-new football helmets from the Green Bay Packers.
Head Coach Paul Kinsella says the helmets come from The Zenith Company, considered to be one of the best manufacturers of protective headgear for high school and college players in the country.
”We applied, similar to a grant writing process, not exactly the same but similar, to give the reason why we needed them,” the coach explained, “We sent it and a few months later they dent a notification to our Athletic Director Nathan Kaderabek that we were selected as a school to receive new helmets.”
Kinsella adds that these helmets, valued between $400 to $500 apiece, are a welcome addition to the equipment wardrobe.
“It was nice to receive the notification we wanted, literally the week that me and our Athletic Director sat down to put together the order for helmets this fall and that totally changed what we were going to order,” he said. “Instead of having to spend $5,500 on helmets we wer able to spend that money on shoulder pads and other equipment the kids can use.”
18 players plus coaches made the trip to Lambeau Field to see their new helmets and enjoy a tour, capped by a dinner and visit with Packer Running Back A.J. Dillion.
