A Manitowoc woman has been sentenced in a 2021 crash that killed her granddaughter.
53-year-old Monica Walker was previously found guilty due to a no-contest plea on one count of Homicide by Use of a Vehicle while charges of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle and Knowingly Operating while Revoked Causing Death were both dismissed.
Walker was in court Wednesday, where Judge Mark Rohrer sentenced her to spend four years in prison.
The crash occurred in February 2021, when Walker’s vehicle left I-43 and rolled, killing 9-year-old Tykia Brewer.
Walker was said to have a BAC of .103 at the time of the crash.
In addition to her jail time, Walker was ordered to speak at schools in the area on an annual basis to speak about her experience.
