Two area high school seniors are among 32 Wisconsin students selected as finalists to receive the prestigious 2023 WIAA Scholar-Athlete Award.
According to a news release from Stevens Point, the area students include Dylan Dettloff of Sheboygan North as one of four Division-1 Boys recipients while Mitchell Thompson of Kewaunee High School is one of the Division-3 honorees.
Tom Shafranski, Assistant Director of the WIAA, said “Each of these remarkable student-athletes has excelled in academics and athletics.”
Dettloff and Thompson will be recognized along with the other 29 state finalists at an awards ceremony Sunday, May 7th at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wausau.
The keynote speaker will be Anne Marie Anderson, Emmy Award winning sports broadcaster and one of the most experienced female play-by-play announcers in the country.
A live webcast of the awards ceremony will be streamed on WIAA.TV at 1 p.m. May 7th.
