Despite criticism from Wisconsin’s state superintendent of schools, Waukesha’s superintendent is sticking to his “no politics in the classroom” stance.
James Sebert, the superintendent of Waukesha, responded in writing to State Superintendent Jill Underly’s letter from the previous week.
He claims there that the emphasis at Waukesha Schools is on “academic rigor and achievement.”
Underly claimed that by forbidding a first-grade teacher from letting her students perform “Rainbowland” at a recent school musical, Waukesha Schools were conveying the wrong message about diversity.
In other words, the choice is hurting both students and instructors.
Last year, Waukesha Schools outlawed politics in the classroom.
Since then, a number of educators and advocates have been opposing the policy.
