A 54-year-old Manitowoc man who allegedly struck several vehicles while driving drunk and fleeing police made his initial court appearance earlier this week.
Richard D. Schroder is charged with Fleeing or Eluding an Officer, Obstructing an Officer, Failure to Install an Interlock Ignition Device, Operating While Revoked, Hit and Run, and 9th Offense-Operating While Intoxicated.
Police were dispatched to Bill’s Auto on Calumet Avenue the afternoon of April 20th on a report of a vehicle striking two others and fled the scene.
Schroder then allegedly struck a third vehicle at South 39th and Calumet before officers spotted his vehicle on South Rapids Road.
A high-risk traffic stop was deployed and after being uncooperative with police Schroder was tasered, eventually handcuffed, and taken to a hospital for an evidentiary blood draw and then taken to the County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
He’s due back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 3rd.
