Jacksonville, Florida area resident and Manitowoc Lincoln graduate, Don Davey, is doing a charity bike ride to help out residents who are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Ian last September.
The former high school, college and pro football player, was keynote speaker at last week’s Lakeshore All Sports Hall of Fame Enshrinement Banquet.
Seehafer News that when he returned to Florida this weekend he had a 1 way ticket to Key West Sunday to begin the ride for Team ONE MILE.
He explained, “All 10 of us are riding all 700 miles from Key West across the state, following the path of Hurricane Ian back to Jacksonville to raise money for people displaced by Hurricane Ian last year.”
Don said their donors including Firehouse Subs Foundation have been “super generous.”
Davey tells us, “We actually have these hurricane preparedness packages that we are giving away,” the former Packer noted.
Davey explained that the packages contain “chainsaws and generators and Firehouse pickle buckets…and of course cash gifts and gift cards for these families that are still displaced from that hurricane.”
Davey, who has completed 12 Ironman Triathlons and a cross country bike relay ride, said Team ONE MILE is comprised of a group of athletes and military veterans intent on doing “epic feats for good causes.”
